Eureka is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Saturday. They will head out to challenge the St. Bernard's Crusaders at 2:00 p.m. Eureka has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while St. Bernard's will come in with four straight wins.
Eureka's offense might be in the hot seat on Saturday considering what happened against Ferndale on Saturday. They took a blow against the Wildcats, falling 58-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Loggers have suffered since October 4, 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Bernard's). They took their contest two weeks ago with ease, bagging a 50-14 victory over Montgomery. Fans of the Crusaders have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Eureka better keep an eye on Trenten Hagler. He was instrumental in St. Bernard's win, throwing for 141 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 passes, while also rushing for 111 yards and one TD on only eight carries. The dominant performance also gave Hagler a new career-high in passer rating (139.2). Kuron Devlin was in the mix as well, providing St. Bernard's with three scores.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for St. Bernard's, racking up 19 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Devlin, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a punt return touchdown from him.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to St. Bernard's defense and their 11 sacks. Jahseree Bailey led the group effort, picking up 3.5 of those sacks all by himself. He is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as he's now posted at least one in each of the last four games he's played dating back to last season.
St. Bernard's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Eureka, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Everything came up roses for Eureka against St. Bernard's when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 41-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Loggers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
