Softball Game Preview: Cascade Cougars vs. Philomath Warriors

Cascade has gone a perfect 10-0 against Philomath recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Cascade is coming into the game hot, having won their last 15 games.

On Thursday, Cascade earned a 10-7 victory over Sweet Home.

Taylor Bays made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cassidy Crabtree, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Grace Wright was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Cascade hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

Stayton hit Philomath with a 16-run second inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors came up short against the Eagles, falling 19-3. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Philomath saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Mason, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Philomath's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Cascade, their win bumped their record up to 17-5.

Cascade got the 'W' when the teams last played last Wednesday against Philomath by a conclusive 25-8 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
