Garner and Fuquay - Varina are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Trojans will welcome the Bengals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Garner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Garner is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Clayton just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Comets by a score of 6-5.
Gabriella Czuczuk was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Czuczuk was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gaby Mizelle was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Meanwhile, Fuquay - Varina came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Titans get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. That's two games straight that the Bengals have won by exactly 15 runs.
Fuquay - Varina let Chloe Webb and Jaycie Old run wild. Webb got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Old went a perfect 1-for-1 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave Old a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Taylor, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Fuquay - Varina's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Garner, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
Garner was able to grind out a solid victory over Fuquay - Varina in their previous meeting back in March, winning 12-7. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Bengals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
