The Union Academy Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Parkwood Wolf Pack at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Union Academy pushed their score all the way to 70 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 77-70 to Hickory Grove Christian. That's two games in a row now that Union Academy has lost by exactly seven points.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ethan Rangolan, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Scruitsky, who scored 21 points along with four blocks.
Meanwhile, Parkwood pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The game between Parkwood and Weddington wasn't particularly close, with Parkwood falling 70-56. While losing is never fun, Parkwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while Weddington is ranked 31st).
Despite the defeat, Parkwood had strong showings from Greg Vinson, who scored 25 points, and Cameron McKinney , who scored 18 points. The match was McKinney 's third in a row with at least ten points.
This is the second loss in a row for Union Academy and nudges their season record down to 1-6. As for Parkwood, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Union Academy might still be hurting after the 75-49 defeat they got from Parkwood when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Can Union Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
