Monday just wasn't the day for Salesian College Preparatory's offense. They fell just short of Archie Williams by a score of 1-0 on Monday.
Salesian College Preparatory saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was DeAmor Coleman, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Aleah Navarro also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Albany made sure to put some runs up on the board against St. Patrick-St. Vincent on Friday. Everything went Albany's way against St. Patrick-St. Vincent as Albany made off with a 20-0 victory. Considering the Cougars' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Caroline Snyder was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Tehya Hancock looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero).
Back at the plate, Samirah Bowie was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Lauren Jones, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Albany kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Salesian College Preparatory's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Albany, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-3.
Salesian College Preparatory beat Albany 18-15 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Salesian College Preparatory since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
