The Clinton Red Devils waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They took down Emerald 41-27. This was payback for Clinton, who suffered a 35-31 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Clinton found their leader in underclassman Mylayja Thompson, who scored 15 points along with eight steals. Thompson hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Zakalia Redd was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Emerald lost, one person who can't be blamed is Arrianna Parks. Despite the final result, she scored eight points.
Clinton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Emerald, they bumped their record down to 5-8 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clinton will challenge Union County at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Union County comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last seven games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Emerald, they will head out on the road to square off against Woodruff at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
