Basketball Recap: Firelands Drops Highest Score of Season Against Black River

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Firelands). They were the clear victor by a 74-50 margin over the Black River Pirates on Friday. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 313th, while the Pirates are ranked 755th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the defeat, Black River saw an underclassman step up: freshman Parker Broadsword went 7 of 11 en route to 21 points. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for Broadsword. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Stuart, who posted six points.

The victory (which was Firelands' third in a row) raised their record to 5-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Black River, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Firelands wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-11 win against Open Door Christian on the 23rd. As for Black River, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-49 defeat against Plymouth on the 21st.
