The Highland Tech Rams suffered their closest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of Sugar Creek by a score of 63-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Highland Tech lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elijah Sherrill. Despite the final result, he scored 30 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sherrill has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Whitted, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Aidan Gatewood continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sugar Creek, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Gatewood is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Levan- Israel, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Highland Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Sugar Creek, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-7.
Highland Tech will head out on the road to square off against East Gaston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. East Gaston has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 413 points over their last six contests. As for Sugar Creek, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Piedmont Community Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Piedmont Community Charter's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last ten matches.
