The New Richmond Lions suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They were dealt a 78-40 defeat at the hands of West Clermont. New Richmond found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 12 fewer assists than your opponent.
New Richmond's loss came despite strong showings from Grant Hess and Ryan Keith. Hess scored 17 points along with six rebounds, while Keith dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Keith pulled down eight or more rebounds.
West Clermont's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Daeveon Benett, who scored 17 points along with five assists and two steals. That's the first time this season that Benett scored 15 or more points. Carson Duke was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six assists and four steals.
New Richmond's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for West Clermont, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-10 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Richmond will take on Goshen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Goshen presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than New Richmond in Ohio (Goshen is ranked 80th, while New Richmond is ranked 554th). As for West Clermont, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Turpin at 7:30 p.m. Turpin is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
