Southeastern - South recap September 4, 2013
LaSalle moved up to 262 from 352 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southeastern - South. The Royal Lions climbed the ranks as a result of topping Pope John Paul II 19-14.
Miami Country Day was the team made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, the Spartans defeated Lipson Hillel Community 35-26.
A.J. Barba put up the best numbers through the air as Florida Christian beat St. Andrew's. He had a total of 7 completions for 114 yards. Barba's favorite target this week was Nick Tejedor, who caught 4 passes for 68 yards.
Ricardo Gonzalez was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 111 yards on 11 carries as Miami Country Day beat the Eagles. Jordan Morris also contributed to the rushing game with 55 yards on the ground.
Berdullas was the best wideout in Southeastern - South this week as Willie Trimmer's team bested Pope John Paul II. Berdullas racked up 5 receptions for 120 yards. Manny Readon helped LaSalle's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 23 yards.
Joey McCain provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Royal Lions beat Matt Dillon's team. He completed 10 passes for 153 yards and also ran for 34 yards.
LaSalle's McCain and Berdullas have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McCain has thrown for 153 yards this season, while Berdullas has 5 catches for 120 yards. Marathon's Cooper Chaplin leads the league in rushing yards with 153.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Westminster Academy takes on second place Miami Country Day. Last week, Westminster Academy topped Calvary Christian Academy, while Marcelo Metzelar's team defeated the Hurricanes.
Archbishop Curley lost to Benjamin 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
