The York Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their tenth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Indian Land, falling 88-48. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for York in their matchups with Indian Land: they've now lost six in a row.
When it comes to explaining why York lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bryson Steele. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenden Lacroix, who scored 13 points.
York struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Indian Land posted ten assists.
Indian Land's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Jones, who scored 30 points along with five rebounds. Jones is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Sincere Rasul was another key contributor, scoring 23 points along with three steals.
York's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Indian Land, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. York will challenge Catawba Ridge at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Catawba Ridge is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games. As for Indian Land, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Northwestern at 7:45 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Northwestern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Friday.
