The Coleman Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Green Bay Southwest Fighting Trojans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Coleman has four straight wins, Green Bay Southwest has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Coleman gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over Crivitz.
Makenzie Nowak was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Maddy Seefeldt was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Hope Forner, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Green Bay Southwest and Manitowoc Lincoln meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Fighting Trojans lost 20-1 to the Ships.
Green Bay Southwest saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Audrey Nelson, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Coleman pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Green Bay Southwest, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
Green Bay Southwest's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Coleman has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .452.
