Basketball Recap: Manchester Comes Up Short

Manchester was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. The match between them and the Whitko Wildcats didn't end well, with the Manchester Squires falling 57-39. While losing is never fun, the Squires can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Wildcats are ranked 93rd).

Despite the loss, Manchester still got an impressive performance from Emma Walker, who went 6 of 15 en route to 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Walker has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Sautter, who posted four points.

Leading Whitko to victory were Reese Stonebraker and Jayma Stonebraker. Reese dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards, while Jayma went 5 of 8 on her way to 14 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Reese a new career-high in blocks (four). Adriyanna Phillips was another key player, putting up 15 points and six rebounds.

Manchester's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Whitko, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Manchester will look to defend their home court on Friday against Southwood at 6:00 p.m. As for Whitko, they will head out to challenge West Noble at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Whitko will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
