3A Metro - West recap Oct. 3, 2012
D'Evelyn was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 3A Metro - West. The Jaguars vanquished Summit 54-7 earlier in the week.
Evergreen moved up to 81 from 119 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 41-7 win over Arvada helped the Cougars improve their standing.
D'Evelyn's dynamic duo of Cody Marvel and Connor Skelton proved tough for the Tigers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Marvel threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns and Skelton had 118 yards receiving. Ty Mcgee helped D'Evelyn's passing attack out by catching three balls for 26 yards.
Matthew McClintock was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 194 yards on 30 carries as Conifer beat Summit. Teammate Jason Keener added to the ground attack by rushing for 122 yards.
On the ground, the Jaguars' Marvel has rushed for 499 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Skelton. The D'Evelyn star has 30 catches for 760 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Conifer takes on second place D'Evelyn. Last week, the Lobos bested Lutheran, while D'Evelyn topped Dylan Hollingsworth's team.
There should be lots of points scored when Conifer and the Jaguars face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Larry Fitzmaurice's team comes in having scored 175 this season, while D'Evelyn has scored 253. The Lobos scored 34 points last week as they defeated the Lions.
The Jaguars led the league in scoring this week after putting up 54 points on the Tigers. Marvel ran for 71 yards in the win.
