The Mira Loma Matadors waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down Rio Linda 46-30. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, as Mira Loma did.
Mira Loma's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kenneth Brown led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five rebounds. Shine Od Chinzorig was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Rio Linda lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kevin Smith. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Rhamad Williams, who scored four points along with nine rebounds.
Mira Loma has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Rio Linda, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-16.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mira Loma will square off against Casa Roble at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Averaging 72.88 points so far this season, Casa Roble's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Mira Loma better be ready for a challenge. As for Rio Linda, they will head out on the road to face off against Woodland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Rio Linda focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Wednesday.
