Softball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Riverside

Riverside came out on top against Troy Christian on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run sixth inning. The Pirates' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 16-0 shutout. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.

Riley Dillon made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. Dillon was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since April 1st.

In other batting news, Emilee Robinson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miah Carman, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Riverside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Troy Christian only posted an OBP of .125.

The victory made it two in a row for Riverside and bumps their season record up to 12-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Troy Christian, they dropped their record down to 0-13 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Riverside is taking a road trip to take on Lehman Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.2 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Troy Christian, they will be playing at home against Miami East at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season.
