The Alexander Central Cougars were the 56-42 winner over the Ashe County Huskies when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Alexander Central took a 54-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ashe County. Alexander Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chad Lasher, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Carter Fortner was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Even though they lost, Alexander Central were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ashe County only posted four assists.
Ashe County's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Harrison Langdon, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Graybeal, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Alexander Central has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Ashe County, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alexander Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face Watauga at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Watauga focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday. As for Ashe County, they will head out on the road to challenge Hibriten at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hibriten is on a six-game streak of home losses, Ashe County a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
