Notre Dame had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 0-5 to make it seven. They came up short against the Cameron Dragons, falling 11-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dragons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-3 back in March.
As for Cameron, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.
For Cameron's part, Landen Francis and Hunter Evans made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Francis tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Evans didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At the plate, Francis went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Evans went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Soier Reed was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Skyler Cooey, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Coming up, Notre Dame will face off against Moorefield at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Fighting Irish's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cameron, they will take on Frontier at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
