The Marvin Ridge Mavericks will challenge the South Mecklenburg Sabres at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Marvin Ridge's favor as the squad sits on 15 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while South Mecklenburg has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
On Tuesday, Marvin Ridge was able to grind out a solid victory over Legion Collegiate Academy, taking the game 3-1.
Marvin Ridge was especially dominant in the first set. The final score came out to 25-14, 29-27, 22-25, 25-18.
Meanwhile, South Mecklenburg came up short against Palisades on Tuesday and fell 3-1.
While South Mecklenburg ultimately came up short, they really made Palisades work, particularly in the fourth set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 26-24.
Marvin Ridge will have to contain Phoenix Modie as he made an impact in South Mecklenburg's last game. He had 15 kills, ten blocks, seven aces, and four digs. Modie has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 13 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Balen Spry, who had eight digs and five assists.
Marvin Ridge's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for South Mecklenburg, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Everything went Marvin Ridge's way against South Mecklenburg in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Marvin Ridge made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Sabres have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
