Northwest Guilford is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Reagan Raiders will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. Northwest Guilford is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Northwest Guilford came into this matchup off a tough 21-point loss on September 12th. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Mount Tabor by a score of 29-27 last Friday. On the bright side, the 27- point performance marked the Vikings' highest-scoring matchup to date.
Northwest Guilford's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Rakem Hammock, who picked up 176 receiving yards and one touchdown, and Ferrell Price, who threw for 316 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt. Adam Reavis also deserves some recognition as he posted his first receiving yards of the season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but last Friday Reagan sidestepped Lake Norman for a 24-21 victory.
Northwest Guilford better focus on containing John Evans Jr. and Jacob Smith as the pair were huge in Reagan's win. Evans Jr. gained 224 total yards and a touchdown, while Smith rushed for 39 yards and a pair of scores. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).
Reagan was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 237 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Norman only rushed for 132.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Reagan's defense and their four sacks. Lake Norman's QB won't forget King Kalama anytime soon given he sacked him three times. Thanks to that big game, Kalama is now up to 5.5 sacks on the season.
Northwest Guilford's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Reagan, their record is now 4-1.
Northwest Guilford was taken down by Reagan 62-15 in their previous matchup back in October of 2019. Thankfully for the Vikings, Gabriel Hollingsworth (who rushed for 61 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, and also threw for 100 yards and a pair of TDs) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
