Strawberry Crest and Riverview are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2015, but likely not for long. The Strawberry Crest Chargers are taking a road trip to challenge the Riverview Sharks at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Strawberry Crest has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Last Wednesday, Strawberry Crest came up short against Alonso and fell 13-9.
Kennedy Shea made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
Even though they lost, Strawberry Crest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Riverview, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Durant on Thursday, sneaking past 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Sharks have posted since April 17, 2024.
Briyana Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Cecilia Cartwright was a standout: she scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliet Sederio, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Strawberry Crest's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs over those games. As for Riverview, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Riverview's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Strawberry Crest has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. It's a different story for Riverview, though, as they've only averaged .333. Will they be able to contain Strawberry Crest's hitters?
Strawberry Crest skirted past Riverview 7-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Strawberry Crest since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
