The Lower Brule Sioux will head out on the road to take on the Little Wound Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Lower Brule is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
On Saturday, Lower Brule was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-51 to Freeman.
Lower Brule's loss came about despite a quality game from Lane Gray, who scored 17 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Gray hasn't dropped below 15 points for seven straight games. Payton Palmier was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Little Wound's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 55-39 fall against Upton. While losing is never fun, Little Wound can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 94th in South Dakota, while Upton is ranked 18th in Wyoming).
Lower Brule's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Little Wound, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Lower Brule against Little Wound in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 87-47 win. Does Lower Brule have another victory up their sleeve, or will Little Wound turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
