Softball Recap: Morristown-Hamblen West Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Morristown-Hamblen West had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They never let the Morristown-Hamblen East Hurricanes get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Briony Bunsic was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Bunsic was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Kaylynn Milton and Eva Boudier did most of the damage at the plate: Milton went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Boudier went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Boudier a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Haley Milton, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Morristown-Hamblen West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Morristown-Hamblen West's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Morristown-Hamblen East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-9-1.

Coming up, Morristown-Hamblen West will welcome Gibbs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 4, the Eagles 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Morristown-Hamblen East, they will head out to take on Grainger at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
