Basketball Recap: Evangel Christian Academy Takes Down Cotopaxi in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Evangel Christian Academy had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 58-20 victory over the Cotopaxi Pirates. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Evangel Christian Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mia Castro out in front who dropped a double-double with 12 assists and 13 steals. With that strong performance, Castro is now averaging an impressive 8 assists per game. Another player making a difference was Reagan Schultz, who went 6-for-11 en route to 12 points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Castro wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Evangel Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cotopaxi only two assists.

Despite the loss, Cotopaxi still got an impressive performance from Hayden Eggleston, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds.

Evangel Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points over those games. Cotopaxi is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-9.

Evangel Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-32 victory against Springfield on the 7th. Cotopaxi does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
