The East Lake Eagles will challenge the Mitchell Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. East Lake will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
East Lake is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They skirted past Palm Harbor University 5-4.
Lucy Mondok spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Ali Sheffield was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Mitchell, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mitchell waltzed into their match on Tuesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They blew past the Packers 10-2. Considering the Mustangs have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Taylor Tucker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madyson Whitaker, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since April 1st. Another player making a difference was Taryn Newton, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Mitchell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive games.
East Lake's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-4. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.9 runs. As for Mitchell, their record is now 21-5.
East Lake took their victory against Mitchell in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
