The Douglas County Huskies waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They walked away with a 76-68 victory over Denver East. Given Douglas County's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Denver East is ranked 64th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Douglas County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Logan Strawn out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Strawn has scored all season. Anthony Nettles was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Several Angels players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Fabian Morris, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Morris scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maurice Fulcher, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Douglas County pushed their record up to 12-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Denver East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-6.
Douglas County will head out on the road to take on Rock Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Rock Canyon's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games. As for Denver East, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Mountain Vista at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Mountain Vista focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
