The Van Horn Eagles scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 76-44 victory over Dell City. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 45-13.
Gio Corralez was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. He set a new season high mark in steals with six. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Anchondo, who scored 14 points.
When it comes to explaining why Dell City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Reyes Espinoza. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with three steals. The contest was Espinoza's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Eli Tate was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Van Horn has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Dell City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Van Horn is on the road again on Friday and play against Balmorhea at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Balmorhea is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games. Dell City will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Marfa at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th.
