The Valley View Cougars will square off against the Lake-Lehman Knights at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lake-Lehman will be up against a hot Valley View squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went the Cougars' way against Scranton Prep on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-1 win.
Taylor Cawley and Abbi Call made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Cawley tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Call pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Cawley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Cawley went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Call went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Cora Castellani was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Emily Moyles was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Valley View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Scranton Prep only posted an OBP of .214.
Meanwhile, Lake-Lehman never let their opponents score last Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Greater Nanticoke Area. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their two-run performance the game before.
The team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Brudnicki, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Shorts, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Valley View pushed their record up to 6-1-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Lake-Lehman, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Valley View has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lake-Lehman struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
