Softball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Barlow's Tenth in Last 13 Outings

Barlow came out on top against Nelson on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Bruins walked away with an 8-4 victory over Nelson. This was a revenge game for the Bruins: when they faced off against Nelson back in April, they had to take a 5-3 loss.

Kaylee Pokorny 2025 spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Barlow let Pehtyn Hart 2026 and Alyssa McCormick 2028 run wild. Hart 2026 got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while McCormick 2028 went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Hart 2026 has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Trapp 2026, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Barlow kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nelson only managed six hits.

Barlow is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Nelson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Barlow will host Gresham at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bruins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gophers have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Nelson, they will be playing at home against Sandy on Tuesday.
