The Glastonbury Guardians will square off against the Simsbury Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Glastonbury sitting on 15 straight victories and Simsbury on 18.
Glastonbury is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: RHAM, who was ranked sixth at the time (Glastonbury was ranked seventh). The Guardians were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Raptors on Thursday.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Glastonbury took every set by at least 11 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-14, 25-14.
Glastonbury's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leah Mosca, who had 15 digs and three assists. Another player making a difference was Abby Kantor, who had eight digs and two aces.
Glastonbury was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 12 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Simsbury hadn't done well against Southington recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Blue Knights with a sharp 3-0 win.
Simsbury not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Southington between 19 and 21 points across their sets. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-19, 25-20.
Simsbury's victory bumped their record up to 19-1. As for Glastonbury, their win bumped their record up to 25-2-2.
Glastonbury was able to grind out a solid victory over Simsbury in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Guardians since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
