Presentation is a perfect 5-0 against Gilroy since February of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. Presentation is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Presentation duked it out with Terra Nova on Tuesday. The Panthers walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Tigers. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Allie Malatesta was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Malatesta wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Juliana Yurko, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Lagi Mailo also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Presentation was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Gilroy not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 27th (when they won 13-5). They put the hurt on Ann Sobrato with a sharp 10-4 win. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Like Presentation, Gilroy also got a great game from a two-way player: Olive Burke. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Burke was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Christy Haro was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Mendez, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Presentation's record is now 8-2. As for Gilroy, their record now sits at 3-8.
Presentation was able to grind out a solid win over Gilroy when the teams last played back in May of 2021, winning 3-0. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
