Softball Recap: Clay Wins Going Away Against Providence School

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fleming Island, Clay was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the Providence School Stallions 7-1. Considering the Blue Devils have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Sadie Russo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Amiah Carrubba was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Kaelye Rouw was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Clay's victory bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Providence School, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clay will face off against Palatka at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Providence School, they will take on Bolles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.61 runs per game on average), something the Stallions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
