The San Jose Prep Storm will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Westside Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, San Jose Prep earned a 68-57 win over KIPP Bold City. Given San Jose Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while KIPP Bold City is ranked 628th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Westside had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 64-57 win over KIPP Bold City on Thursday. The win was just what Westside needed coming off of a 80-53 defeat in their prior contest.
Justin Myrick was the offensive standout of the matchup as he scored 21 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
San Jose Prep's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Westside, their win bumped their record up to 2-11.
San Jose Prep strolled past Westside in their previous matchup back in January of 2022 by a score of 78-61. Will San Jose Prep repeat their success, or does Westside have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
