Baseball Recap: Wahkiakum Triumphs

While Wahkiakum didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They won by a run and slipped past the Raymond/South Bend Ravens 10-9. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-3 back in March.

Brody Ashe and Gage Robinson did most of the damage at the plate: Ashe scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Robinson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those hits marked the first that Ashe got this season. Another player making a difference was Preston West, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Wahkiakum and bumps their season record up to 5-1. As for Raymond/South Bend, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Coming up, Wahkiakum will face off against Oakville at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mules' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Acorns have averaged an impressive 16 runs per game this season. As for Raymond/South Bend, they will take on Morton/White Pass at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Ravens are facing the Timberwolves at the right time seeing as the Timberwolves are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
