Baseball Recap: Marksville Triumphs

While Marksville's win against Abbeville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Fighting Wildcats on Thursday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Fighting Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Auston Lachney made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Marksville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-17 when he doesn't).

In other pitching news, Abram Bordelon looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Marksville is 2-1 when Bordelon allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-17 otherwise.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brice Juneau, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Marksville: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-18 otherwise. Johnavon Small also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Marksville's record is now 5-18. As for Abbeville, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-23.

Looking ahead, Marksville will square off against Florien at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blackcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.72 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Abbeville, they will take on Highland Baptist Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
