West Grand and Clear Creek are an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The West Grand Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Clear Creek Golddiggers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully West Grand focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, West Grand didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Mancos, but they still walked away with a 38-33 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for West Grand.
West Grand's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Sara Lechman, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds, and Luci Bruchez, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her.
Meanwhile, Clear Creek's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Thursday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a hard 32-14 fall against Platte Canyon. Clear Creek found out winning isn't easy when your three-point shooting is a whole 81% worse than the opposition.
Clear Creek's loss came about despite a quality game from Indi Crawford, who scored eight points.
The victory got West Grand back to even at 2-2. As for Clear Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Everything came up roses for West Grand against Clear Creek when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 60-11 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Grand since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
