The Jefferson Saints's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their eighth straight loss. They took a hard 72-56 fall against Fort Lupton. Even though they lost, Jefferson's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.1 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Jefferson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luis Fajardo, who scored 11 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Garcia, who scored 17 points along with six assists and four steals.
It was another big night for Gabriel Chavez, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and six assists for Fort Lupton. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Chavez has scored all season. William Sibanda was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Jefferson bumped their record down to 1-10 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Fort Lupton, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson will challenge DSST: Montview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in DSST: Montview's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Fort Lupton on the road again on Tuesday and play against Englewood at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Englewood has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
