The Verdugo Hills Dons won the last time they faced the Chavez Eagles, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Verdugo Hills strolled past the Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 62-44. Given Verdugo Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 414th, while the Eagles are ranked 1291st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Gianmarco Figueroa, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Garik Yepremyan, who scored nine points along with eight assists and four steals.
Verdugo Hills' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-11. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.7 points per game. As for Chavez, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-16.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Verdugo Hills will take on the Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chavez, they will stay at home for another game and welcome the Pythons at 4:30 p.m. on February 1st.
