After two games on the road, Calexico is heading back home. They will take on The Vincent Memorial Scots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Calexico fell victim to Brawley's stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 40-0 loss at the hands of the Wildcats. While losing is never fun, Calexico can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 593rd, while Brawley is ranked 251st).
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Vincent Memorial's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Holtville by a score of 27-25.
Vincent Memorial's loss came about despite a quality game from Jacobo Elias, who rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and also threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Elias' longest rush was for an incredible 86 yards.
Calexico has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. As for Vincent Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Calexico took their win against Vincent Memorial when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 42-16. Will Calexico repeat their success, or does Vincent Memorial have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
