If the Springdale Prep Lions were riding high off their 59-27 takedown of Mount Airy Christian Academy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Springdale Prep lost to Holton-Arms on the road by a decisive 61-45 margin on Monday. While losing is never fun, Springdale Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Holton-Arms is ranked tenth).
Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Anya Neufeld, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 37.8% of Springdale Prep's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Maddie Sellers was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
Springdale Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 24-23. As for Holton-Arms, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Springdale Prep will head out on the road to square off against Goretti at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Holton-Arms, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Episcopal at 5:45 p.m. on February 13th. Hopefully Episcopal focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Friday.
