Gilpin County has struggled against Clear Creek recently, as their contest on Saturday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Gilpin County's loss came despite strong showings from Lane Willis and Ben Bushey. Willis scored four points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Bushey scored four points along with 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Bushey pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Even though they lost, Gilpin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Collin Hendrickson, who scored 36 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks for Clear Creek. Hendrickson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zephyr Schuessler, who scored ten points along with six assists and three steals.
Gilpin County's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.2 points per game. As for Clear Creek, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gilpin County will square off against Dawson School at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Clear Creek, they will head out on the road to challenge Vail Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vail Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
