Lumberton is on a three-game streak of home losses, the Bears a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Lumberton Pirates will take on the Gray's Creek Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
While it was all tied up 19-19 at halftime, Lumberton was not quite the Tigers' equal in the second half on Friday. Lumberton took a 47-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. Lumberton has struggled against the Tigers recently, as their game on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their loss, Lumberton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Charley Whitley, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Leira Smith, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Lumberton struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as South View racked up 14 assists.
Meanwhile, Gray's Creek came up short against the Eagles on Friday and fell 45-38.
Lumberton has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Gray's Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.
Everything came up roses for Lumberton against the Bears when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 53-22 victory. Does Lumberton have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
