The Muleshoe Mules will be taking part in a tournament against the Lamesa Tornadoes at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Muleshoe has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Muleshoe came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Brownfield, falling 14-7. The Mules have struggled against the Cubs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Jake Villanueva was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Lamesa, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They blew past Kress 12-5 on Thursday. The Tornadoes not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26, 2025 (when they won 15-4).
Michael Moreno was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Chase Zorola and Damian Ramos did most of the damage at the plate: Zorola went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Ramos went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave Zorola a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonah Muniz, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Lamesa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kress only posted an OBP of .400.
Muleshoe's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Lamesa, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Muleshoe's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Mules have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lamesa, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Muleshoe continue to outrun the ball?
Muleshoe was able to grind out a solid victory over Lamesa in their previous meeting back in February of 2025, winning 8-3. Will the Mules repeat their success, or do the Tornadoes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
