The McDowell Titans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Asheville Cougars at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. McDowell has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 340 points over their last four matchups.
Even though Hibriten scored an imposing 55 points on Wednesday, McDowell still came out on top. McDowell strolled past Hibriten with points to spare, taking the game 72-55. Given McDowell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Hibriten is ranked 541st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead McDowell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaurice Ledbetter, who scored 15 points. David Olivo was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Asheville unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a hard 53-34 fall against T.C. Roberson. Asheville found out winning isn't easy when your three-point shooting is a whole 21% worse than the opposition.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Elijah Cox, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aidan Shaw, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
McDowell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for Asheville, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Everything came up roses for McDowell against Asheville in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 90-51 win. Does McDowell have another victory up their sleeve, or will Asheville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
