For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Salem and Effingham meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Hearts by a score of 8-6. The Wildcats' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Cody Beard was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Carter Lowe was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Salem's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Effingham, they pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Salem will challenge Odin/Patoka/Sandoval at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.8 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Effingham, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shelbyville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Hearts surely won't give up without a fight.
