Charlie Maier was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Mott, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Boylan Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Guilford came up short against Boylan Catholic on Friday and fell 9-6.
James Versino made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Riley Kegley, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Boylan Catholic's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-14-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Guilford, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Boylan Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Guilford struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
