4A Region I District 3 recap October 1, 2013
Palo Duro moved up to 445 from 500 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 3. The Dons climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Frenship 17-14.
Caprock added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Monterey, 35-34. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Victor Rodriguez threw for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 16-24 with 2 interceptions.
Antaun Turner was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 148 yards on 24 carries as Palo Duro beat the Plainsmen. Anthony McClain also contributed to the rushing game with 84 yards on the ground.
Leading 4A Region I District 3 in both passing and receiving yards, the Longhorns' Rodriguez and Cruz have proven to be a lethal combination. Rodriguez has thrown for 1,057 yards this season, while Cruz has 21 catches for 295 yards. Turner from Steve Parr's team leads the league in rushing with 398 yards.
Caprock and Monterey played the closest game in the league this week, with Caprock eventually emerging with a 35-34 victory. Rodriguez ran for 72 yards during the win.
