Valencia (Placentia, Calif.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 48-0 win over Western (Anaheim, Calif.).
The Tigers scored 14 points in the first quarter. Valencia scored on a touchdown pass by
Jesse Godoy to
Jake Watkins and a Godoy touchdown pass to
Jack Van Dam.
VHS was up 31-0 at the half after taking the lead on a Godoy touchdown pass to Watkins in the first quarter.
The Placentia school expanded its lead to 48 points entering the fourth quarter. The Tigers scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown pass by Godoy to Van Dam.
Godoy played well for Valencia in the victory. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns.
VHS entered the contest giving up 20.3 points per game this year.
The victory will ease some of the sting of the Tigers' close 36-35 loss to the Pioneers last season.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Valencia, which was coming off a 49-21 defeat at the hands of Tustin in its previous game.
Western (3-4) will play a Empire game against Pacifica next week, while Valencia (4-3) will take on Yorba Linda also in a Empire game.
