The Sterling Golden Warriors will face off against the Kewanee Boilermakers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Sterling is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
On Friday, Sterling got the win against Rock Falls by a conclusive 12-2. The Golden Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Marley Sechrest, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Lily Cantu was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Sterling kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Kewanee came out on top against Sherrard on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Boilermakers took their game against the Tigers 7-4. The Boilermakers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Kalleigh Gale was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 14 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Kieryn Abernathy was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
Kewanee's win bumped their record up to 17-12. As for Sterling, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sterling hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Kewanee struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
