3A Metro - East recap September 17, 2013
Nick Bersagel of Englewood ran for the longest rushing play in 3A Metro - East this season against Alameda last week. Bersagel scampered for 76 yards on the play and finished with 303 on the day as his team beat the Pirates.
Vista PEAK Prep moved up to 144 from 177 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bison climbed the ranks as a result of beating Conifer 29-28.
Vista PEAK Prep's dynamic duo of Noah Butler and DJ Ortiz proved to be unstoppable against the Lobos, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Butler threw for 346 yards and 3 touchdowns and Ortiz had 153 yards receiving. Isaiah Young helped Vista PEAK Prep's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 128 yards.
Pat Rock's team's dynamic duo of Butler and Ortiz proved tough for Conifer to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Butler put up the best numbers through the air as the Bison bested Larry Fitzmaurice's team.
Julius Antunez made the biggest impact on defense this week as Elizabeth beat Discovery Canyon. The 5-foot-9 senior.
He was 20-34 with 0 interceptions.
Ortiz was the best receiver in the league this week as Vista PEAK Prep beat the Lobos.
Bersagel was the most successful running back in 3A Metro - East this week. Tyler Harris also contributed to the rushing game with 17 yards on the ground.
Bersagel was a force in the backfield as Englewood defeated Alameda.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Young. The Vista PEAK Prep star has 21 catches for 459 yards.
The Cardinals took down the Thunder 44-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Logan Weber threw for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win.
